ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS CERTIFICATE

Before any testing of low voltage electrical installations (and equipment) is carried out, a detailed physical inspection must be made to ensure that everything is to a relevant National standard, erected/installed in compliance with the IEE Regulations and not damaged in such a way that it could cause danger.

In order to comply with these requirements, the Regulations give a checklist of items that, where relevant, should be inspected. However, before such an inspection, and test for that matter, is carried out, certain information must be available to the verifier.

The Electrical Installation Certificate is a safety Certificate that is issued by a qualified electrician as confirmation that any electrical installation project has been that complies with the BS 7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations). This kind of electrical testing and certification is legally required on any type of building where electrical installations have been fitted.

Only electricians registered for `Part P` of the Building Regulations, with body like the NAPIT or NICEIC should undertake this type of electrical testing and certification.

The Electrical Installation Certificate will need to be issued any time that there is:
  • A newly installed installation
  • When any new single circuit or multiple circuits are being added to any installation that already exists.
  • When there is any change of distribution board (consumer unit)
  • When there has been any alteration to a circuit and that alteration has required a change to the protective device.

Following initial verification, and after a full inspection and testing procedures have been undertaken, the Electrical Installation Certificate must be completed. This is something that is required by law.

EleCable Man's electricians are registered for `Part P` of the Building Regulations, with body like the NAPIT and capable to undertake this type of electrical testing and certification.

EICR

WHAT IS AN EICR

An EICR test in short, is to check for danger within your property’s electrical system. EICR stands for Electrical Inspection Condition Report, and functions as a detailed inspection of your property’s electrical systems and installation. EICRs should be carried out by certified electricians who are fully insured, qualified and experienced to undertake such an important task.

Carrying out an EICR requires multiple tests to be performed on the electrical systems of your property.  Among the tests we perform at EleCable Man are: Earth measurement reading, bonding test, continuity of CPC, continuity of ring, insulation resistance, polarity test, earth fault loop impedance, RCD test and visual circuit observation. Our certified contractors have decades of experience in identifying faults in electrical systems spanning all types of properties.

HOW LONG WILL AN EICR TAKE AND HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

The time required to perform your assessment will depend on the size of your property. A 3-bedroom property on average takes around 3-4 hours. Our prices can be found below, for more details do not hesitate to get in touch.

WHY DO I NEED AN EICR?

All properties should be retested periodically. Retest periods vary for different property types, to ensure optimal safety tests should be performed on the following intervals:

Domestic Property: 5 years
Rented Houses: 5 Years or change of tenant/owner
Other Property Types: Please enquire

An EICR is a legal requirement as a landlord, and while it is not a legal requirement when selling a property, it can give the potential buyer additional information and clarity on the condition of the property. An EICR is also useful for general peace of mind when considering your electrical system.

WHO CAN PERFORM AN EICR IN LONDON?

At EleCable Man we are NAPIT registered, hold full public and professional liability insurance and are qualified to the highest national standards in testing and inspecting electrical installations.

EMERGENCY LIGHTS CERTIFICATE

Emergency lighting is vital to your commercial building. Designed to ensure that anyone within the building can evacuate safely should the main lighting fail, it’s required to operate fully automatically and give off an illumination of a high enough level to enable all occupants to safely get out of the premises.
As part of health and safety protocol, in particular, Fire Precautions Risk Assessment, employers are required to carry out Periodic Inspection and Testing of their emergency lighting in accordance with the requirements of BS 5266.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING IS COMPRISED OF THREE PARTS WHICH ARE:
  • Emergency escape lighting – This provides illumination to light the way out for people leaving a building, so that they can leave safely, identifying any hazards in their way.
  • Standby lighting – This is to provide normal standard lighting should the main lighting power fail.
  • Escape route lighting – Lighting which clearly identifies the means of safe exit.

All emergency lighting systems are legally required to be maintained, tested and inspected at regular intervals.
At EleCable Man, we can assist you to ensure that your emergency lighting systems are safe, and well maintained. We can offer service plans which include regular testing, identification of faults, and quick remedial action.
